AUDIO: What MCAs, Maina Kamanda Discussed in Kikuyu Language During Secret Sonko Impeachment Meeting

A leaked audio clip, of a secretive meeting held by Kikuyu speaking politicians, set social media on fire on Wednesday, leaving netizens reeling in shock of the foul play that is Kenyan politics.

In the viral recording, the attendees of the meeting, whose agenda was to chart a way forward for Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s impeachment, are heard tearing Sonko’s reputation apart, asserting that he was no longer of use to them.

Addressing nominated Jubilee MP Maina Kamanda by his name, indicating that the controversial politician might have been part of the gathering, one of the politicians is heard reassuring the legislator that the group of Nairobi politicians was relying on his leadership on the way forward.

The leader is also heard bragging that he was among the first people to sign Sonko’s impeachment motion papers, since he could not wait to get rid of the county head who, according to him, was too strict on politicians dipping their hands into public coffers.

He further challenges his fellow leaders to work harder in drumming up support for Sonko’s ouster, in order to make Nairobi ‘better’.

Additionally, he laments that so broke are Nairobi MCAs, that they cannot even afford money to bail themselves out of jail, if they are arrested for one reason or the other.

Nevertheless, the leaders console themselves that their woes are only temporally, reminding themselves that their ultimate goal is to rescue the county, whose residents are predominantly from Central Kenya, from Sonko’s grip.

Promising to bring the governor down, the politicians ask Kamanda to financially facilitate the ‘war’.

They further drag President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name into the conversation, noting that the head of state is solidly behind Kamanda’s decisions, including the anti-Sonko war.

In the four-minute clip, they also indicate that they received Ksh. 200,000 bribes during Sonko’s scuffle with the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) in 2019.
