On September 20, 2018, news broke of a murder most foul, that of businesswoman Monica Kimani. The 28-year-old was found dead in a bathtub by her brother at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment in Kilimani, Off Dennis Pritt Road.
At the time of her death, something strange happened to her father Paul Ngarama who was at a prayer seminar.
In an interview with Kikuyu Diaspora TV, Paul revealed that he unwittingly felt Monica’s soul departing as he was engulfed by a very strange weak feeling, he started feeling very ill and couldn’t participate in the prayer session anymore do to the ominous feeling. That was on Wednesday before news of her death broke on Thursday.
“I left Monica in Juba and came to Kenya for an evangelism service. On that Wednesday we were had gathered at a church to pray for our country because a lot was going on at that time. During the overnight kesha, I was very disturbed and I heard God telling me to pray. While I prayed, I kept feeling weak, it’s like there was a severe struggle inside me. I didn’t know why I no longer had the strength to pray. At around 1, I couldn’t pray anymore and I think that was when Monica was killed. From 10 to 11 pm I was feeling completely weak, I couldn’t pray, I felt so sick and people even asked me to go take a nap and relax,” he confessed.
“When I went to church on Thursday morning in Maguguni, Thika East, I felt the urge to pray. At 8 am my son George called me and told me that he couldn’t reach Monica. It was very unusual for her not to pick up calls or call back. I told them to let her rest because she had just travelled. At 9 am my son called again as he had gone to check on Monica, the TV was on, the water was running but she was not opening the door,” Paul added.

When he couldn’t get access to her house, George notified the security guard who found a way of accessing the house. He noticed that there was blood on the couch and when he looked into the bathroom, he found Monica’s body lying in the bathtub.
In a state of panic, he started screaming ‘let me out’ before informing the brother that Monica was dead. Her brother then called their father telling him of the news and that is when Paul asked for a ride to Lamuria Gardens where he found the police at the scene. They then allowed him to access the house to see his daughter before they could transport the body to the morgue.
“I couldn’t believe what I saw. It was very painful to see her in that state. Her neck was slit and her hands and legs were tied. Her clothes were torn. The investigation team told me that she had been raped. I was told I fainted at the sight and was taken to the car,” he emotionally recounted.
