‘Wewe ni Mjinga’- Kabogo Slams Raila-Led Narok BBI Rally

Former Kiambu Governor Wiliam Kabogo on Wednesday expressed his reservations on the kind of trajectory the BBI course is taking.

In video footage he uploaded on his social media accounts, Kabogo criticised the Narok BBI rally saying it lost its the path owing to what the leaders were advocating for.

ODM leader Raila Odinga addressing Narok BBI Rally.

“I have listened to today’s BBI rally (in Narok) and I have feeling that we are going the wrong direction.

“We have talked about cohesion among us Kenyans and it is saddening that our leaders have started getting it wrong by arguing about the style of leadership and politicisation of the gender rule,” said Kabogo.

The Former Kiambu Governor further slammed the leaders who spoke at a rally for prioritising their needs before those of common citizens.

He questioned why the leaders had to centre their speeches on political seats instead of how they can improve the lives of Kenyan citizens.

“Why are we talking about political seats? Why can’t we talk about the needs of a common citizen? Why can’t we talk of how we can curb unemployment and how we can make progress as a nation?

“When will the salary of the common citizen be increased? When will the common citizen manage to comfortably pay school fees of his young ones? When will our citizens afford good housing and better health care?” posed Kabogo.

Kabogo added that it was shameful for leaders to imagine that constitutional amendments are about political seats and urged the leaders to think of the common citizens first in every course of the BBI initiative.

Tutumia BBI Kuinda katiba itakayo faidi wakenya kwa jumla, sasa na miaka ijayo, sio viongozi. Wanjinga! Any attempts to creat political seats for retiring governors is not only silly but foolish.

“This is shameful to imagine that when we have a chance to amend the constitution it is about political seats. It is very shameful and we must learn because the next time we have such a chance, God knows when.

“The President has given us this chance, why can’t we take the chance as a lifetime opportunity and come up with a constitution that will run the country peacefully for many years to come?” he posed.

The remarks by the Former Governor come hours after Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala was heckled by group leaders after insinuating that gender parity was not a mandatory requirement.

His statements attracted the wrath of leaders present led by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and her Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu who told him off forcing him to leave the rally before it’s ending.

Majority of leaders present advocated for an increment in political seats saying it was a way of ensuring that all communities are part of national leadership.

The next BBI rally is slated for Garissa on Sunday.
