Barcelona Signs Danish Star

Barcelona are set to sign Leganes striker, Martin Braithwaite after being granted permission to make an emergency signing owing an injury to Ousmane Dembele.

The Catalan club sought permission from the Spanish FA to bring in a striker despite the closure of the transfer window. This was necessitated by an injury to Ousmane Dembele that has since ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

With Luis Suarez injured as well the Laliga club has been left with Antoinne Griezmann and youngster Ansu Fati as the only available out and out striker. The team has been struggling to score goals and are hoping to solve the problem by bringing in the former Middlesbrough man.

The 28-year old has previously turned out for Esbjerg fB, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Middlesbrough. He is a full Denmark international having declined to represent his father’s nation, Guyana after he was approached by the country’s FA.

The move by Barcelona, however, has irked fans in Spain with the club battling relegation on Laliga. Losing their starman at a time they are fighting to survive will be a massive blow for the side and fans have taken to social media to lambast Barcelona.

Leganes, however, can do little to stop him from quitting the club as the Catalans have already met his 20 million Euros release clause and will now figure out how to battle the drop without one of their key men.

Meanwhile, the player will only feature in Llaiga only as he is not eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League according to the rules set by Laliga.
