The 4-2-1-3 Formation That Manchester United Should Play Against Chelsea

Record English champions Manchester United travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. The Red Devils have already beaten Chelsea twice this season, once in the league and in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge.

Below, we look at how Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer could line up against the Blues.

David De Gea starts in goal as has been the case in every league game so far this season. Ahead of him, Aaron Wan Bissaka starts as the right back. The young man has been a revelation since he made his move from Crystal Palace.

On the left, Brandon Williams comes in to replace the woeful Luke Shaw. Willian has the speed and agility to deal with Chelsea’s quick wingers while Luke Shaw will probably not be at Manchester United next season.

The center-back pairing will again be the tried and tested duo of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Midfield

Manchester United has been rocked with injuries in the midfield department with the likes of Paul Pogba out. However, Scott Mctominay could return against Chelsea but probably on the bench.

It means that Ole Gunnar will again start the overplayed Fred alongside former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in a double pivot. The two are the closet thing to a balanced pair that the manager can pick from his current available squad.

Ahead of the two, another former Blue in Juan Mata should start in the attacking midfield role.

With Marcus Rashford injured, Antony Martial will lead the line for the Red Devils. He has not been in fine form lately but the Frenchman loves a goal against Chelsea as he showed last season when he scored twice in the same fixture.

On the right-wing, Daniel James gets the nod as the offers pace and directness that no other United player does. Seeing as Martial and James are not in good goalscoring form, the manager could be tempted to give Mason Greenwood his first start in the league on the left-wing.

The youngster has four league goals this season, all coming off the bench.

Starting XI: De Gea, Bissaka, Williams, Maguire, Lindelof, Matic, Fred, Mata, James, Greenwood, Martial.
