Are We Witnessing The Death Of Sportpesa In Kenya?

Giant betting company Sportpesa has had a few rough past few months. The company was denied operating an operating license by the Kenyan government in June last year and things have been going downhill ever since.

Despite rumors of making a comeback two months following the License renewal decline from the government, the company was forced to lay off almost all its employees due to the lack of activity. They were promised to get their jobs back sooner rather than later but so far, that does not even look remotely close to being an occurrence.Image result for sportpesaeverton

The company also canceled all sponsorships it had with Kenyan Sports entities.

That has seemingly come back to bite them as Engish Premier League side Everton announced plans to cancel their partnership with the company two years before the deal expired.

Though the club didn’t give the reasons for this move, it is widely reported that Sportpesa doesn’t have the funds to honor the deal.

A day later, Sportpesa further announced that it has canceled its deal with the Racing Point F1 team whom they had a partnership with last year. The company will, however, continue with its partnerships with Tanzania football clubs Simba and Yanga.

With other betting companies seemingly taking over the Kenyan market which was dominated by Sportpesa, it begs the question; Are we witnessing the death of Sportpesa in Kenya?
