Anti-Ruto Blogger Under Fire After Dragging DP’s Name Into Fatal Lang’ata Road Crash

An ardent Deputy President William Ruto social media critic was, on Sunday, subjected to heavy criticism, for allegedly spreading false information, on the identity of a man who died, after his vehicle crashed and caught fire along Lang’ata Road.

Abraham Mutai was among the first individuals to break the news, claiming that the dead motorist was a close aide to the deputy head of state, named Kelvin Rono.

It, however, emerged shortly after the crash, that the owner of the ill-fated luxury Mercedes vehicle, was one David Kipruto Rohoh, according to online National Safety and Transport Authority (NTSA) records.

Caving under the pressure of being branded a propagandist, Mutai took to social media once again, to exonerate himself from the fake news accusations, saying that the information he shared, on the grisly crash, originated from the police.

”It was the Langata police who identified the man at the accident scene as Kelvin Rono,” the blogger tweeted, adding that the officer who assessed the accident scene was one John Sichei.

”Protocol dictates that police report is what is used for news. Not any other person’s,” he defended himself against trolls, who read malice into Mutai dragging Ruto’s name into the tragedy.

”I repeat. We were informed by Langata Police that the man who died was Kelvin Rono. The police at the accident scene was John Sichei. He informed us that Kelvin Rono was the man who died. We were all following the police report,” he added, noting that media houses that had reported the accident also used the same erroneous information.

”Unless you are a fool, you can’t go around DISPUTING a police report. All media houses use the police report at the accident scene to report. Unless otherwise, we wait for them to issue a new report. But as the matter stands, the person who died is David Rono, not Kelvin Rono,” he concluded, accepting that he had gotten the deceased’s identity all wrong.

According to agitated netizens, Mutai was too quick to share the news and he should have waited until all matters pertaining to the accident were cleared out.

Others advised him to revise his list of sources to ensure the credibility of his information.
