Kiambu MCAs Switched Off Phones after Colleague’s Death

The mysterious death of a Kiambu County’s Member of County Assembly has come to reveal some of the intricate that happened in its wake.

A remark by Theta ward MCA Simon Kuria showed that the deceased Kahawa-Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi’s death was received through WhatsApp shortly before colleagues in India switched off their phones.

Omondi was attending an Educational workshop in India when he was found dead in his hotel room by fellow MCAs in the Education Committee.

“After they broke news of Omondi’s death, all the MCAs in the Education Committee, switched off their cell phones, and none of us (in Kenya) could reach them,” Kuria told a local media house.

Kiambu County Speaker Stephen Ndichu has since confirmed the incident, stating that initial reports have pointed at heart attack as the possible cause of death.

Witethie MCA Julius Taki stated that Omondi’s death came as a surprise given that he was of sound health during his entire time at the Assembly.

Omondi became the only Luo MCA to be elected in Kiambu after ditching ODM to vie with a Jubilee ticket in the August elections of 2017.
