Raila Cements his Position at AU

ODM party leader Raila Odinga cemented his position at the African Union after securing a term extension.

The former Prime Minister had his term extended by the Commission’s chair Moussa Faki after he got appointed in October 2018 following his truce with President Kenyatta on March, 9 the same year.

Appointing Mr Odinga as AU Special envoy for Infrastructure, Faki highlighted his vast experience in management having served as PM between 2008-2012 and Minister for Roads, Public Works & Housing between 2001-2005.

Odinga’s role has been to coordinate with all African States to actualize the Trans-African Highways Network that is projected to increase trade in the region.

By 2063, AU forecasts to have a High-Speed Rail Network connected to all African capital cities to allow for ease of business.

Odinga has a fully furnished office in Nairobi that comes complete with staff to coordinate his AU engagements with President Kenyatta.

However, he should be ideally based in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia from where he should be coordinating his Infrastructure agenda.
