Arsenal Set to Release Key Players

New Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is reportedly plotting to kick out key players in the summer as he looks to shake up his squad ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The Spanish tactician replaced Unai Emery in December but did not make any major signings. The only players he signed are right-back, Cedric Soares, from Southampton and Pablo Mari from Flamengo. Both players were acquired on loan until the end of the season.

Arteta is plotting a major shakeup in the summer as he seeks to bring glory days back to Arsenal. The tactician is said to be keen on bringing in a younger crop of players to kick start the Gunners’ journey back to the top.

To create room for the new generation, Arteta is planning to kick out some senior players especially those on high wages at the club. According to reports in the UK, captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette are among players the former Arsenal captain wants the club to release, all the three are on high wages.

Aubameyang has been in good form this campaign scoring a number of key goals for the Gunners. Ozil and Lacazette, on the other hand, are struggling and the German in particular came close to leaving the club in January only for the move to fall through in the closing stages.

Defenders Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz could also be released by the club as Arteta is keen on building his backline with a new crop of defenders.
