Kilonzo remarked that the country should steer away from politics this week in order to mourn the great icon.

“For this week, all of us should turn down their political notions and mourn Mzee Moi.

“He has touched everybody in one form or the other,” uttered the Senator.

This comes a week after the Kitui BBI gathering hosted by governor Charity Ngilu.

Trouble had loomed in the Ukambani region after it was speculated that there would be parallel BBI meetings following a disagreement between, Ngilu, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

Details emerged that Ngilu and Kibwana wanted the parallel rallies in a bid to stifle one proposed by Kalonzo.

The decision by the three at the time was seen as a way of shifting power in the area from the once vice-president of Kenya.

In a twist, however, Mutua changed his stand and warned the other two over their strategy.

According to Mutua, the plan would stifle the purpose of the initiative spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The Machakos County boss, nevertheless, noted that the warring Ukambani leaders should join efforts and find a solution to the matter.

“I propose a meeting involving His Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, the three governors, senators and all MPs to speak with one voice because it is this form of unity of purpose for BBI that President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga envisaged,” pronounced Mutua.

Despite Mutua’s calls to have the Kitui rally postponed last Saturday, the event went on as planned with Raila being the guest of honour.
