Inside Jubilee’s Plot to Impeach DP Ruto

The wrangles within the ruling party, Jubilee are no secret at the moment. This, however, could be getting uglier if the recent reports are anything to go by.

ODM’s Junet Mohamed had last week indicated that the Naivasha retreat by Tanga Tanga lawmakers was a plot by the Deputy President William Ruto allies to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Despite the accusation being so vague, it is now believed that a section of Jubilee’s hardliners is plotting the same against the DP.

According to a report by Sunday Nation, the faction, which is loyal to the President, is at the centre of the plan on the basis that the second in command was planning the same fate for his boss.

The team is said to be firming up the motion at a Nanyuki hotel.

In addition, an unnamed influential Jubilee Party official was quoted by a local daily, The Star, bragging how his plan to tame the DP is falling into place.

According to the publication, the official who was in the company of some politicians from Mt Kenya at a Nairobi hotel, reportedly said that Ruto was a marked man in the ruling party and that it was a matter of time before he is kicked out.

The official also claimed that an elaborate scheme had been hatched to vanquish DP’s 2022 presidential ambitions.

According to the Constitution, the DP may be impeached where there are serious reasons to believe he has committed a crime under national or international law.

This comes just a day after the Head of State made it clear that he has no faith in some of those closest to him, and does not have a preferred candidate in the 2022 race.

Speaking in Kinangop on Friday in his Kikuyu mother tongue, Uhuru declared that he will inspect government projects himself after being “betrayed” by those he had hoped would help him deliver on his mandate.

Even though he did not mention any names, many interpreted that the remarks were referred to his deputy, who has in the past embarked on a string of crusades to “inspect” or “launch” development projects across the country.

“I no longer trust anyone,” a bullish Uhuru revealed.

“Those I used to send to represent me and ensure that development projects are on the right track started behaving like hyenas and doing their own things to enrich themselves. Let no one cheat you; from today, I am not sending anyone to help me,” he added.

A hopeful DP, however, believes that Uhuru will back his 2022 presidential candidature if he clinches the party’s nomination.

“Uhuru Kenyatta will support the candidate of the Jubilee Party in 2022. You can take that to the bank. As to who that candidate will be, that is up to Jubilee and its structures to decide,” DP Ruto revealed during a past interview with NTV.
