A standoff ensued at Kitui BBI rally after Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria were denied a seat at the dais.
Video footage of the incident showed the Gatundu MP being roughed up from the dais by a group of people.
Reports making rounds on social media alleges that the two leaders were ordered to seat among the crowd that had turned up at the rally after it happened that the two had no seats allocated for them.
However, according to City Lawyer Donald Kipkorir, the two leaders had breached protocol, and therefore, had themselves to blame for the push and pull.
He added that the Tanga Tanga leaders had got it wrong for arriving after the chief guest, ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“In every function, protocol dictates the last person to arrive in the VIP dais is the Chief Guest. In BBI Rallies, the Chief Guest is Baba Raila Odinga … it is out of order for Moses Kuria & Kipchumba Murkomen to be arriving after Baba … They shouldn’t be allowed,” tweeted Kipkorir.
The two leaders’ arrival at Kitui BBI rally seemingly came as a surprise since they have been attacking their competitors over the initiative.
At the Naivasha meeting where leaders allied at DP William Ruto convened a retreat to chart their way forward on the BBI course.
Their meeting came a day after they attended a Mombasa BBI rally.
During the Naivasha meeting, they resolved that they will be having separate BBI rallies to reinforce on the already scheduled ones.
They announced that they will hold their first rally at Nakuru Afraha Stadium on February 8th.
Their resolutions attracted czar criticism from leaders allied to President Uhuru and the ODM leader who accused them of plotting to sabotage President Uhuru’s development course.
They added that the Tanga Tanga leaders were looking forward to continuing with their political campaigns ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
The Kitui BBI rally is the fourth after the Mombasa, Kakamega and Kisii meetings.
The next BBI meeting is set for Embu on February 15th.
