Laliga leaders Real Madrid will welcome struggling arch-rivals Atletico Madrid to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Saturday evening.
Atletico are currently struggling in Laliga and Diego Simeone’s job is on the line although he recently received public backing from the club president. Madrid, on the other hand, are in good form and leapfrogged Barcelona to top on Laliga last weekend.
Madrid are unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions and they will be looking to stretch the lead against their struggling City rivals. They, however, will be looking to win a league derby at home for the first time since 2012!.
The hosts will be without Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio who are both long-term absentees. Gareth Bale who has been struggling with fitness issues will be available despite being linked with a move back to Spurs this window.
For Atletico, Joao Felix, Thomas Lemar, Diego Costa, and Maria Gimenez will all sit out of the derby with various injuries. With the team struggling to score goals, Felix’s injury is a huge blow for under-fire Diego Simeone.
Madrid are ten points ahead of their rivals heading into the game. Zinedine Zidane’s team is in its best form at the moment. Atletico, on the other hand, are goal-shy in particular with just 22 goals in 21 league matches.
The two teams faced off in the Spanish Super Cup final a fortnight ago where Real won through post-match penalties after a barren draw in regulation and extra time.
