Matchday 18 in the Kenya Premier League takes center stage this weekend. Gor Mahia the defending Champions lead the table with Kakamega Homeboyz and Tusker FC in close hot pursuit of the top spot.
Below, we reflect on the main talking points ahead of the matches.
Wazito’s Woeful Run Set To Continue?
Wazito FC has lost seven consecutive matches in the league this season. That run is the second-worst of the campaign only bettered by Chemelil’s disastrous start to the season.
Stewart Halls’s side will be away to a Kakamega Homeboyz side that has title ambitions this season and sits second on the log, just two points behind the leaders. Homeboyz has also won the last four matches, including a 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia.
Leopards Face Ulinzi Test
AFC Leopards has shown great improvements this season. Ingwe sits sixth in the table and among their ranks is the highest scorer in the League Mark Makwatta.
The team also has arguably the best goalkeeper in the league, Benjamin Ochan has kept 11 clean sheets in sixteen league outings. Ulinzi, on the other hand, has not lost the last five matches at home, winning three and drawing the other two.
Baptism Of Fire For Muhiddin?
Twahir Muhiddin’s first match as the new Bandari head coach was a 3-0 away loss to Gor Mahia. In his second match this weekend, Bandari makes the long trip to Narok as they face Posta Rangers.
Rangers are on a three-match winning run and could condemn Bandari to another silent trip back home at the coast.
Possible goal-fest in Machakos
Two of the worst sides defensively in the top half of the table face off when Sofapaka host Mathare United at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Sofapaka has let in 24 goals this season with just two clean-sheets while Mathare is not far behind with nineteen. Sofapaka let in two in midweek as they lost to Gor Mahia with Mathare also conceding twice in their draw with Zoo Kericho. Saturday’s affair promises to one full of goalmouth action.
