Former Spurs Midfielder Approves Signing of Winger

Former Tottenham midfielder, Rafael van der Vaart has backed incoming Spurs winger, Steven Bergwijn to flourish at the north London club once he completes his switch.

The Dutch international is set to become Jose Mourinho’s second January signing after the two clubs reached an agreement on the transfer fee that’s in the region of 26 million pounds plus add ons.

Spurs manager Mourinho recently admitted that his team lacks fire-power upfront after the one-all draw against Southampton on Saturday and hinted that his team needs to beef up its forward line following the injury to lead striker Harry Kane who has since undergone surgery.

In comes, a 22-year old Dutch international who was linked with a summer move to Manchester United but the move failed to materialize as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went for Swansea City’s Daniel James.

Asked what he thought about Steven’s move to north London, Van der Vaart, who played for Spurs between 2010 and 2012 said the speedster will improve his former side.

“Good luck to Stevie and my Spurs. Should it all really happen, I believe that Bergwijn will certainly be a great signing for Spurs,” he said.

He, however, warned that the player will have to adjust to EPL’s demands in terms of pace and ambiance.

“Obviously he will have to adjust to the PL pace and ambiance but his speed, technique, and strength will certainly add something to the Spurs game,” he added.
