Ronaldinho Compares Arsenal Star To Brazilian Legend

When Arsenal signed an unknown Star from the Brazilian fourth division last summer, little was expected from the youngster. In fact, some fans bemoaned the signing accusing the club of neglection far more important issues to bring in an experienced 18-year-old.

However, six months later, Gabriele Martinelli is the name on everyone’s lips. Not only has he scored 10 goals in 11 starts for the Gunners, the last one of these was in a 2-2 draw with London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

His potential is scary such that it left World Cup-winning midfielder Ngolo Kante on the floor en route to the first Arsenal equalizer four days ago. It has left many people talking, including Brazilian great Ronaldinho.

Ronaldinho compared Martinelli to fellow Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

“We as Brazilians are very excited about him. It’s one thing to have the talent – but another at 18 to have the confidence. He reminds me of Ronaldo. His first season in Europe; he scored 30 goals & people were thinking: ‘who is this Brazilian kid?’” The 2005 World Playe of the ear said.

He further added that Martnelli has a  playstyle that sets him apart from the other players and is his main strength.

“He just wants to be on the ball and score goals. Ronaldo went on to be the best player in the world – and that can also be the aim of Martinelli,” he added.

Martinelli will without a doubt be in Mikel Arteta’s plans when the Gunners travel to face Bournemouth in the FA Cup third round on Monday night.
