Nacho The Unlikely Hero as Real Madrid Leapfrogs Barcelona

Real Madrid defender Nacho was the unlikely hero after scoring in Real Madrid’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Real Valladolid on Sunday night at the Jose Zorrilla stadium.

Madrid went into the game in search of a win that would seee them open a three-point gap over their rivals Barcelona who lost to Valencia on Saturday and the utility defender delivered the points 12 minutes from time heading home from a Toni Kroos corner.

Real Madrid dominated the game from the onset in search of goals. They thought they has gone ahead early on but Casemiro’s header was rightly ruled out for offside.

Madrid Continued to knock in search of more goals with Rodygo and Karim Benzema leading the onslaught. They however failed to break down Valladolid in the first stanza.

They equally started the second half strongly in search of a breakthrough. Benzema, Casemiro and substitute Lucas Vasquez all came close to breaking the deadlock but poor finishing cost them.

The game was slowly turning to a difficult one for Madrid with Valladolid defending deeply and also looked dangerous on the counter attack and the Los Blancos had to balance their attack and defensive duties well.

13 minutes from time, Madrid got the all-important goal through Nacho. The defender rose high to power home from a Toni Kroos corner.

The win takes Madrid’s tally to 46. Three more than rivals Barcelona. Sevilla are third with 38 while Getafe occupy the fourth position with 36.
