Confusion Looms as Kalonzo, Ngilu Set to Hold Similar BBI Rallies

Supremacy battles between Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu are set to bring confusion into the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative sensitization drive.

Opera News has established that the next BBI rally scheduled to take place in the Ukambani region may have two venues and on two different days.

One is set to take place on February 7 in Makueni and another on February 8 in Kitui headed by Kalonzo Musyoka and Charity Ngilu respectively.

Governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Charity Ngilu and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) on Monday vowed to lead a public participation forum to parallel to the one being fronted by Mr Musyoka.

The county chiefs kicked off a series of their BBI campaign meetings on Monday where they addressed the first joint rally in Kitui.

The meeting brought together more than 4,000 grassroots opinion leaders drawn from all the 40 electoral wards.

Each ward brought about 100 leaders including village administrators, traders and religious leaders to the meeting which was held at the Kitui Stadium.

The three governors said they had settled on Mrs Ngilu as the coordinator of the BBI campaigns in Ukambani, and announced that they will be inviting President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to their subsequent meetings.

The decision to do so they said was based on Mr Musyoka’s failure to attend the first two major BBI rallies in Kisii and Kakamega, Mrs Ngilu said some leaders are yet to make up their minds and give direction.

The governors accused Mr Musyoka of sympathising with those opposed to the BBI, citing his reluctance to convene a leaders’ meeting since the report was launched early last month.

In  Mombasa on Saturday, Kalonzo nonetheless, affirmed his support for the BBI in a bid to woe the people to support him and come for the rally that he has planned for in Makueni.
