Babu Owino to be Treated at Industrial Area Prison as Court Turns Down His Request

Embattled Embakasi East MP Babu Owino will now have to seek treatment at Industrial Area Remand Prison clinic.

This is after the court declined to grant him his request to be taken to private health facility.

The court directed that the controversial MP be treated at the prison’s clinic.

Babu Owino on Thursday failed to appear in court in a case he is charged with two counts of subversion and uttering abusive words against President Uhuru Kenyatta.

His lawyer argued that the youthful MP was unwell due to chest pains he has been suffering from, which forced Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot to direct his treatment.

“The accused should receive treatment at Industrial Area Remand Prison Hospital pending the mention of the case,”  Cheruiyot said.

According to the charge sheet in the incitement case, Babu Owino on September 24, at a rally in Kawangware uttered words calculated to excite disaffection against the presidency.

The youthful MP was recently charged with the attempted murder of Felix Odhiambo alias DJ Evolve at ilimani’s B-club on Friday last week.

While appearing before chief magistrate Francis Andayi, he denied all the charges preferred against him before being remanded at Industrial Area.

He is represented by lawyers Dunstan Omari, Cliff Ombeta and five others.
