Tension in Lamu After Attempted Al Shabaab Attack

A security lapse was witnessed on Sunday Morning in Lam County after armed Al-Shabaab militants were reported to have stormed Pandaguo village.

According to Lamu County Commissioner, Irungu Macharia, security agencies thwarted an attempted terrorist attack in the Village.

This comes barely weeks after two other terrorist attacks in the county, one on a military camp and another on a passenger bus.

In January 2020, Kenya has faced multiple insecurities linked to the terror gang and have since then been on high alert.

Elsewhere in Nairobi, five people were arrested on Sunday morning on suspicions of planning a terrorist attack.

The five include 2 Kenyans, a US citizen and 2 Somali nationals.

Anti-Terror Police reported that the five were caught conducting surveillance on Whiskey River Pub along Kiambu Road.

The detectives seized a Toyota Vitz car, Kenyan military attires, computer, US passport and security card.

The suspects are being held at Runda Police station awaiting further investigations.

Early this year an attack on Manda Airstrip in Lamu County left three American citizens including a serviceman dead.

This was followed by other bloody attacks in Garissa County that have claimed the lives of teachers and pupils in two separate learning institutions.
