Chelsea FC midfielder Mason Mount has labeled the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday evening as a difficult one to take.
Despite dominating the clash at St. James Park, the Blues suffered a last-minute heartbreak at St. James Park when Isaac Hayden headed home a 94th-minute winner to help the hosts pick maximum points at home.
Chelsea had dominated the clash, created the best of chances but poor finishing and excellent defending from Steve Bruce’s men frustrated coach Frank Lampard at the dugout. Just as it looked like the match would end barren, Hayden settled the clash with a late header to dent Chelsea’s top-four finish chances.
The Chelsea youngster bow claims that his side deserved to pick all the three points from the clash but rued lacking a cutting edge up front for the defeat.
“It’s a tough one to take. Even a draw we would have been disappointed with. We had a lot of possession, we created a lot of chances, but when we score no goals we can’t say anything,” he said.
Mount who was at Derby County last season admitted that their opponent did a sound job both defensively and in winning tackles before breaking Chelsea supporters’ hearts late on.
‘They did unbelievable to defend the whole game, making blocks, winning tackles, and in football, anything can happen. They then go to the other end of the pitch late on and score,” he added.
