Martinelli Scores But Arsenal Is Held By Sheffield United At The Emirates Stadium

Arsenal continued with their woeful run of form in the league when they once again let a lead slip to draw 1-1 with Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium.

With captain Piere Emerick Aubameyang out with suspension, Mikel Arteta started young Brazil forward Gabriele Martinelli on the left-wing. The Young Brazilian should have opened the scoring early in the first half but he skied his effort from a very good Nicholas Pepe cross.

The young Brazilian would, however, make amends late in the first half. Bukayo Saka who was playing at left back crossed the ball and a slight deflection took it into the feet of Martinelli who had the easy chance of tapping the ball into an empty net.

The Gunners dropped off in the second half as the away team searched for an equalizer. Nicholas Pepe should have had a penalty when he was tripped in the box but VAR nor the center referee did not award it.

Sheffield equalized with seven minutes left to play when a long ball into the box was not dealt with and Fleck was on hand to smash the ball past Bernd Leno.

The point leaves Arsenal 1oth on the log with 29 points while Sheffield United is 7th with 33 points. Next up for the Gunners is an away London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
