It is Not a Must For Raila to Become Kenyan President, Raila

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga on Saturday may have given Deputy President William Ruto a sigh of relief after he opined that it is not requisite for him to vie or become president of Kenya.

Odinga speaking during the second Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) sensitization drive in Kakamega insisted that what he and President Uhuru Kenyatta were trying to do was to move the country from poverty to posterity.

He further insisted that the process of moving the country to posterity does not necessarily mean he has to be the president in order for the changes to take effect.

“Raila Odinga does not have to be the president of Kenya but Kenya must have a good president,” the former premier said.

The ODM leader in a statement seemingly directed to those who were not in support of BBI recounted how he and the president Uhuru Kenyatta decided to come up with the BBI.

” We sat down with the president and after we had aired out our differences, we asked ourselves what the problem could be. We have a new constitution and it doesn’t seem to work…that’s when we decided to come up with the BBI.”He said.

Odinga further castigated leaders opposed to the BBI telling them that there is nothing as powerful as an idea whose time has come, ” time for BBI has come.”

Elsewhere in the county running battles were the order of the day in Mumias as Deputy President William Ruto’s allies attempted to hold a gathering parallel to a grand BBI meeting.

The politicians included MPs Justus Murunga (Matungu), John Waluke (Sirisia), Didmus Barasa (Kiminini), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West) and Charles Gimose (Hamisi).

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa joined them.

The politicians were to hold their meeting at Nabongo Grounds in Mumias, but police cordoned off the area, as key leaders attended the Building Bridge Initiative rally at Bukhungu Stadium.
