Ruto’s Silence Raises Eyebrows After Uhuru Reshuffled Cabinet

Nearly a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta reshuffled his cabinet, Deputy President William Ruto is yet to comment on the changes.

The DP, who is known to be fast in reacting to such changes and matters of national importance, has kept mum with his official Twitter handle was last updated on Sunday.

Besides failing to comment on the cabinet reshuffle, the DP on Monday also filed to say something on the gazettement of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce.

His absence during the state of the nation address too raised eyebrows as President Uhuru was visibly seen alone making the state of the nation address.

According to the political analyst Herman Manyora who spoke to this writer, the cabinet reshuffle seemingly came as a shocker to the DP and perhaps “he’s still trying to swallow the ball in his throat!”

Tuesday’s address became one of the few instances that the head of state addressed the nation in the absence of his deputy.

According to a section of observers, move to reorganize his cabinet to bolster service turned to be a slap on former cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri’s face who was shown the door.

Could the decision by some of his footsoldiers including Moses Kuria to embrace Kiunjuri after his sacking a sign that the DP is not impressed by President Uhuru’s decision?

On Tuesday, while sharing a picture of him with Kiunjuri, Kuria captioned it “Kenya has started moving on”.

Not only Kuria, who is DP Ruto’s ardent support, expressed dissatisfaction on the sacking of Kiunjuri but also Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.

Taking to her social media accounts to lament over Kiunjuri’s sacking, Jumwa urged Malindi residents to boycott BBI deliberations saying the president’s move was against BBI mission.

The developments come barely a week after the DP was reportedly locked out of his official residence in Mombasa after an alleged order from above-directed officers to clear his belongings from his residence.

The DP was forced to seek accommodation at English Point Marina in Nyali, Mombasa.
