While Al Shabaab’s militant activities have rocked Somalia and neighbouring Kenya, Somaliland- a breakaway region of Somalia has largely remained peaceful.

The region has installed stringent security screening and high profile intel that has helped reduce Shabaab activities.

This comes just days after Shabaab militants massacred some three non-local teachers in North-Eastern Kenya.

This happened in the wake of another attack that saw three people killed after Shabaab militants conducted a raid in Manda Bay killing an American pilot, serviceman and a local worker.

The militant group intensified its attacks in Kenya after the Government made an incursion into Somalia in 2010 after a series of attacks.
