Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna has elicited anger among a section of Kenyans after his latest remark on Miraa.

Taking to Twitter, the troubled politician had bashed Trade and Industrialisation CS Peter Munya for claiming that Kenya was ripe for a constitutional review to give more powers to the presidency.

However, what caused jitters online was Miguna’s assertion that the CS could be suffering from brain damage for chewing Miraa. Munya hails from Meru where the stimulant crop is popular.

“Peter Munya believes that the impotent Kenyan Senate has the same constitutional functions, powers and capacities like the US Senate. Has the potent Meru miraa gone into his head and destroyed all the brain cells?” Miguna posed.

The CS had said the current Constitution, though progressive, reduces the President’s powers when it comes to some critical decisions.

He cited the appointment of judges, a process in which the President only receives the names of preferred candidates.

“We need a balance so that the President appoints and the Senate approves, like in the USA. We followed the American model of the Constitution but went overboard. When the current Constitution was passed, we noted there were faults. The time has come to rectify the anomalies,” he said as quoted by Daily Nation.

The firebrand online activist took a swipe at the CS claiming that he had been speaking on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta to impose BBI on Kenyans ‘in order to make Kenyatta an all-powerful Emperor for Life’.

His latter remark on Miraa was what angered a number of Kenyans with many accusing Miguna of taking his sentiments too far and touching on a crop that has been the source of livelihood for many.

“You are a great man General… But use sober sentiments. I like your ideas… I subscribe to your concerns for this Nation… But sometimes your choice of phrases is controlled by emotions,” a Twitter user, Benayun said.

“I was supporting you but what you’ve just said miraa is not appropriate. Some of us we’ve been paying school fees for decades from miraa farming,” added Kennedy.
