A CCTV footage has revealed the identity of two women who abandoned a bag full of bullets and a gun at Naivas Supermarket in Thika.

The footage shows two women handing over the bag at the luggage bay before leaving.

The women are covered, probably to hide their identity.

On Thursday, the management of the supermarket informed officers that a suspicious bag had been left at the luggage area for over a week and upon opening it, a loaded pistol and 40 rounds of ammunition were found.

“A staff member from the luggage section notified us that there was a bag that had overstayed at the reception, upon checking, we discovered the gun and that is when we notified the authorities. Our CCTV shows that two ladies who had covered their faces left the bag here,” Daniel Mukuha, the Thika supermarket’s branch manager told the media.

Police have hence launched a hunt for the two women.

Thika Sub-County Police Commander  Beatrice Kiraguri said the pistol was reported missing by a licensed firearm holder on December 30, in Kandara, Murang’a County.

She called on supermarkets to ensure they are thorough when conducting checks to ensure such incidents are avoided in future.
