The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat in the Carabao Cup to Man City, a result that all but ended the Old Trafford based club’s hopes of reaching the Cup final and in the process reduced their chances of winning silverware this campaign.

Despite the defeat and the visible need for reinforcement, the Norwegian remained upbeat at fulltime insisting that they will only make signings if the right players are available during the January transfer window. He revealed that he has the backing of the United board to sign the players that he needs.

He further laid blame on illness and injuries for the team’s woeful run this campaign.

And of course, with the injuries that we’ve had and the illnesses, it shows more. That’s something we’re looking at. If there’s something there for us, I’ve got the backing to do something. But if it’s not the right thing I won’t do anything,” he said.
