Why MP Mohamed Ali is Under Fire After Building Prestigious High School

A move by Nyali MP Mohamed Ali to unveil the first secondary school in his constituency came under criticism on Monday from a section of social media users.

This is after the MP posted on his Twitter page the outlook of the school, that was named after him, and boasted of the major milestone made by him in enhancing the education of his constituents.

“The First Girls Sec School in Nyali constituency (Mla Leo) since independence opening its doors on 13th Jan 2020,” wrote the MP on his Twitter page.

However, a section of Kenyans online slammed the MP for naming the school after him saying an alternative name could suffice.

Citing a case of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, where he built Mbagathi Girls from scratch, online users urged the MP to rename the school Nyali Girls.

A social media user identified as Collins Kangongo tweeted; “Very good work Mheshimiwa. My but… You could still name it Nyali Girls Secondary school. Ken Okoth just called the school “Mbagathi Secondary school” and we all still noticed the good work he did. Tenda wema nenda zako. Good work.”

According to another follower identified as @thomaskan82, the move was a terrible one since gone are days that schools are named after politicians.

“You have same character with former president Daniel Moi who named almost all institutions after his name. The worst form of leadership. You don’t have to inscribe ur name or even name the school after you,” he said.

To @Martinkellmen; “maybe people should stop naming schools, Hospitals and Roads built using public money after them. This school should have been named Nyali Girls High School. It’s the first Secondary school in that area and he calls it Mohamed Ali? Ah!”
