‘There was Plan to Arrest me’- MP Alice Wahome

Kandara MP Alice Wahome on Monday revealed that there was a plan to arrest her over controversial remarks she made against President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking to NTV Kenya, the MP said a contingent of police officers were on standby to arrest her if she was to attend a press conference that turned chaotic in Murang’a after two groups, one supporting her and the other against, clashed.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome.

However, she dismissed reports indicating that she was part of the press conference saying she had no such plans.

“I think there was a plan to arrest me. Because if If you read the breaking news on social media I think they said I was to be arrested over Ksh180 million CDF money.

“I am told there were a contingent of police and I have also been called from Kandara headquarters. A contingent of police came fully armed to arrest Hon Alice Wahome because I am told they were told that I was the one to lead the press conference,” she said.

Wahome slammed government officials planning her arrest, saying she had a right as a Kenyan to express herself in whatever way, including through a press conference.

She accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, his Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho of idleness and urged them to focus their energy in fulfilling their mandate.

“I think it is improper to arrest me even if I was the one to hold a press conference and in fact, this is the things that I addressed to the president during the burial of Rubia.

“I think the police have got too much time to waste when we have security challenges both in Murang’a, Kandara and the entire country.

“I think Kibicho is the one giving direct instructions. I was called by a very senior officer within the security system and told me, should I be arrested for holding a press conference…I think Kibicho is either Idle with Matiang’i or they do not know their work,” she added.

The allegations by the MP comes days after she was heavily criticised for disrespecting the head os state after she insinuated that his party leader President Uhuru is a threat to democracy, freedom of expression and economy.

Wahome, who is allied to DP William Ruto, became the subject of political discussion in the country leading to those allied to President Uhuru to demand an apology to the head os state.

However, the MP insisted she won’t apologise adding she has a right to express herself on issues she deems pertinent without fear or being coerced otherwise.
