Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes Carlo Ancelotti will be a big success at Everton, branding his managerial rival as one of the ‘smartest guys’ in football.
The Italian arrived at Goodison Park just before Christmas following the sacking of Marco Silva and has guided the Toffees to back-to-back wins in his first two matches in charge.
Having previously managed European giants such as AC Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, Ancelotti brings a wealth of experience to the blue half of Merseyside including an impressive record of 20 major honours as a manager.
Ahead of Everton’s trip to Manchester City on New Year’s Day, Guardiola acknowledged the power and threat of his managerial counterpart and is expecting a tough encounter at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Everton match, Guardiola said; “They have a new manager who has an incredible experience.
“He is one of the smartest guys, always able to make good results. It will be a difficult test for us. I think it is incredible for English football that he is back and I’m pretty sure he will be a success.”
Guardiola’s side can tighten the gap on leaders, Liverpool, to 11 points with a win on Wednesday afternoon, with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds hosting Sheffield United on Thursday evening – 24 hours after ’s match finishes.
