Uruguayan Defender Dreams of a Man United Return

Uruguayan defender, Guillermo Varela is hoping to play for Manchester United again in future after an unsuccessful first spell with the Red Devils.

The right-back was in United’s books between 2013 and 2017 making just four appearances for the first team. He was loaned out to Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid Castilla during that period.

He returned to his boyhood club Penarol in 2017and after impressing back in Uruguay he was signed by Danish side, Football Club Copenhagen in 2019 and has been a key player in Copenhagen. In an interview, the speedy fullback said he hopes to play for the Red Devils or in the English Premier League someday again.

“Maybe we will meet again soon. Maybe in the Premier League. I’m still only 26. I, of course, want to go back to the Premier League at some point. In the future, maybe I can come back and play for Manchester United – I hope,” he said.

His team progressed to the Europa League round of 32 and may face United at some point in the competition something he is looking forward to.

“It would be a dream to go back to Old Trafford. It would be a beautiful moment – I wait for this. Maybe we will get drawn to play Manchester United – we don’t know. But if we do, it would be a dream,” he added.
