Kenyans Celebrate as Raila’s Daughter Rosemary Regains Eyesight

As Christians across the world, Wednesday celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ, ODM leader Raila Odinga’s family had one more thing to celebrate; the re-birth of his daughter Rosemary Odinga’s sight.

Rosemary announced the miraculous news during a Christmas Day church service in Bondo, Siaya County, marking the end of her two year battle with the challenges that come with visual impairment.

Rosemary intimated to the congregation the emotional difficulties that came with her condition, noting that the inability to see her children was the worst part of it all.

On his part, Odinga recounted how his family sought medical help for Rosemary both locally and abroad before discovering a doctor in India who helped end her impairment.

Kenyans joined the Odinga family in celebrating the breakthrough, sympathising with Rosemary or the difficulties she had to endure.

Others mocked Odinga’s political rivals, who had alleged that Rosemary’s condition was as a result of witchcraft practices on her father’s part.

Rosemary is viewed by some as having an interest in joining the political field, with pundits having opined that were it not for her now cured blindness, she might have been on the Kibra Constituency Nov. 7 by-election ballot.

This is probably why some couldn’t help but politicize her recovery.

The Parliamentary seat has since been occupied by one Imran Okoth, who replaced his deceased brother Ken Okoth.
