He would, however, miraculously gain momentum and win the competition controversially.

Owino was attending the 8th edition of the Rusinga Festival which features culture, art, cuisine, music and traditions of the Suba culture.

The Abasuba, whose culture have been nearly wiped out by the Luos, lived in the present-day Suba North and South constituencies.

Nestled between the adjacent semi-arid region and the expansive Lake Victoria basin, the Bantu-speaking tribe has lost its culture as a result of assimilation.

The festival organized by Anne Eboso, aims to revive the Suba culture and language within the region.

The two-day event held between December 19-20 saw thousands of culture enthusiasts drawn from around East Africa throng Rusinga to appreciate and learn the Suba traditions.

Other cultures and languages threatened by extinction in Kenya are the El-Molo, Kore, Kinare, Sogoo and Lorkoti.
