The month of making merry and feeling philanthropic will most likely have most of us having hangovers and the reasons are pretty obvious.

A hangover is the worst thing you can feel after consuming more alcohol than your body can take.

While there’s no cure for a hangover, there are a few ways to prevent the inevitable splitting headache and explosive diarrhoea that comes from taking too much alcohol the night before.

Everything from the kind of liquor you imbibe to the time of day you drank can contribute to how miserable you feel the next day.

You see, alcohol causes dehydration which can lead to a hangover and drinking water while taking alcohol will help reduce dehydration.

The best way to remove that hangover is to replace the vitamins and minerals your body has lost with a good breakfast, your stomach and your body will appreciate it.

Coconut Water

As much as drinking water will help ease in having a hangover it is not the only solution.  You can replace it with coconut water, sports drinks or isotonic drinks.

You can even create your own by dissolving one tablespoon of sugar and another of salt in half a litre of water and drink slowly through the morning.

Banana

Alcohol blocks the production of a hormone that helps your body hold on to water, leading the loss of electrolytes like potassium.

Tomato juice or soup

Soups are every drunkard’s morning-after friend. For maximum recovery, go for chicken soup. The sodium content will restock your dwindled reserves, while the broth helps to rehydrate your body.

Watermelon

Since headache associated with a hangover is usually due to dehydration, eating watermelon may help.

Eggs

Drinking alcohol decreases the body’s store of glutathione. The eggs contain cysteine, an amino acid that breaks down the acetaldehyde, the chemical byproduct that results from your liver breaking down ethanol. It’s what’s responsible for your headache.

Avoid caffeine

If you want to recover your hydration levels, you will have to wait for the desired coffee.offee is a diuretic, just like beer, which will only dehydrate you further.

Also, the high amounts of caffeine in it will make your headache worse, so stay off it unless you really enjoy the head-splitting migraines.
