The market holds Chicken auctions annually, an idea that was developed by Getrude Chemutai to help farmers sell chicken at a good price.

Chemutai says last year they were able to sell 5,000 chicken at ksh 6 million.

Chemutai says they are aiming at selling 13,000 chicken in this year’s auction that will be presided over by DP Ruto who has been invited as chief guest.

As a cooperative, the coordinator says they have been growing bigger every year and they are looking forward to becoming the biggest chicken suppliers in the region.

Chemutai also cites that the venture will improve the livelihoods of the residents and diversify from maize farming which has been the main economic practice in the region for long.

According to sources the event was rescheduled to accommodate DP Ruto’s itinerary. He is set to preside over the annual Kimalel Goat Auction on Saturday, 21st.
