Major Differences Between 2019 KCSE Results and 2018

2019 KCSE results have posted significant improvements from that of the year 2018.

Starting from the 660,204 candidates in 2018, 2019 saw some 699,745 students sit for exams between November 4-27th.

GENDER DISTRIBUTION

Out of this number, some 49 per cent were female students with the other 51 per cent being male.

In 2018, 51.29 per cent were males and 48.71 per cent being female students.

Interestingly, the number of Special Needs students who sat KCSE remained the same in 2018 and 2019 at 1499.

Out of the 47 counties, some 17 counties registered more female students than males in the 2019 KCSE exams.

In 2018, 18 counties had more female students than male. These counties were Kwale Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Meru, Kakamega, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Muranga, Vihiga Taita-Taveta, Makueni, Kitui Kiambu and Kisumu.

PERFORMANCE

While 2019 saw a spike in the number of students getting direct entry grade to University, the overall performance of the top student registered a slight decline.

In 2018, Pangani Girls’ School student Julliet Otieno scored an A-plain of 87.664 points to be the country’s top learner.

In 2019, the top student is Tony Buluma of Kapsabet Boys with an A plain of 87.159 points.

The number of students who scored A plains in 2019 increased to 627 from 2018’s 315.

Those who had A (-) also made a significant improvement from 3,418 in 2018 to 5,796 in 2019.

The number of students proceeding to University in 2019 are 125,746 from a paltry 90,377 in 2018.
