Good morning,
A lot has happened since the launch of the BBI report on November 27. First, there is really no one opposing the report. The Tanga Tanga wing of Jubilee has seemingly been cowed into supporting the recommendations of the taskforce.
Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta extended the term of the taskforce for at least one year. The extension was strategically announced on the eve of Jamhuri Day so there was little discussion around it.
And on Tuesday, ODM leader Raila Odinga and his party announced that they propose the creation of a powerful prime minister with two deputies. The announcement followed a similar declaration from a section of Mt Kenya leaders allied to the president.
Raila has not told Kenyans why we need to have the above three executive positions plus a president and a deputy president. Critics of the BBI report have claimed that it is about creating positions for politicians. How this will solve the perrenial issue of divisive elections is still not clear.
A lot is happening in this holiday season. King Kaka and Alfred Mutua could just be calculated distractions.
Here are the stories making headlines this morning
