Sonko’s Impeachment Move Takes a New Twist

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s troubles piled more with the latest development in his impeachment case.

The Nairobi County government was left in a fix after the court barred the governor from accessing his office.

The problem was moreover compounded with the lack of a deputy governor to step in place.

The condition issued by the court bred life to an impeachment motion for Sonko.

Sonko a problem for Nairobi

According to the County Assembly, the controversial politician’s continued stay in office would prove a problem for the capital city.

It is reported that the ward representatives are split on removing the flashy county boss.

One section led by Majority Leader of the County Assembly Charles Thuo, claim that they are ready to bring down the motion.

“Let those who are sponsoring it bring it and we shall deal with it. If you get the numbers, well and good but if you don’t we shall meet another day,” remarked Thuo.

Thuo declared that there was no power crisis or vacuum within the city.

“The Nairobi County government is working and nothing has stopped,” uttered the Majority Leader.

Despite the small influence by Sonko in the Assembly, a huge section of the leaders want him out.

Enough numbers to kick-out Governor Sonko

The majority group led by Minority Whip Peter Imwatok reiterated that Governor Sonko, should be sacked due to his incompetence.

In addition, Imwatok noted that the various corruption cases levied against the Jubilee party member painted a bad image of the city.

The minority whip insisted that they had the numbers to kick out the governor.

The embattled Sonko seems to have a case of constant bad luck after being dealt another blow by the court.

On Wednesday, Justice Weldon Korir denied a request to block the impeachment move.

Korir stated that the application made by two Sonko supporters was not formal hence he could not grant the stop orders.

Embattled Sonko to name a deputy governor

As the residents of Nairobi await the decision by the representatives, Sonko promised to name a new deputy governor.

Details emerged that after consultations with the Council of Governor Chairperson Wycliffe Oparanya, the troubled politician promised to name his deputy soon.

Nairobians are, however, sceptical over the vow as they have become accustomed to empty promises from Governor Sonko in the past few months.
