Sonko Turns to The Bible as Impeachment Calls Intensify

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has turned to the Bible for consolation as tribulations continued to follow him.

The usually cocky politician took to Twitter on Sunday to share several Bible verses a few days after he was granted bail over the 19 corruption-related charges on irregular procurement and payment of more than Sh357 million in the county.

This also followed a move by the Nairobi MCAs that set in motion plans to impeach the governor after he was barred by the court from accessing his county offices on Wednesday.

“The Lord will fight for you. You only need to be still,” Sonko quoted Exodus 14:14.

In the same post, he took issue with the Standard Group, over ‘Jubilee Dumps Sonko’ headline, in the Sunday edition newspaper.

“Githeri Media propaganda they must sell newspapers using Sonko’s name. Because today is Sunday, we trust in God, and his holy word will prevail. (Lazima wauze gazeti na jina la Sonko. Lakini kwa sababu ni Jumapili tumwani Mungu na neno lake takatifu litasimama),” he said.

He also found hope in the Bible, quoting ” Jeremiah 29:11. For I know the plans I have for you, ” declares the LORD, ” plans to prosper you not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This is not the first time the county chief has humbled himself with religion when faced with graft allegations. In September, Sonko penned a long prayer on his Facebook page after he was twice questioned by authorities over corruption-related accusations.

In the prayer, Sonko asked the Lord to provide Kenyan leaders with ‘wisdom’ even as he prayed for the country’s ‘safety’ and peace in war-torn Somalia.

In July, the county boss left tongues wagging after assembling a section of county executives to pray for the passage of Division of Revenue Bill, a holy session that turned into a political altar where he lashed out at a section of leaders he thought were frustrating the process of debating and signing the draft into law.

He singled out National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, whom in his prayers, likened to the “devil” working against the country’s development.

” Satan the devil, you are stupid and I condemn you. You have been invaded by evil spirits like Aden Duale, rubish. Look at the money MPs have addded themselves,” Sonko was heard ranting in a video he share on his Facebook page.
