Real Madrid Thump a Stubborn Club Brugge

Real Madrid ended their UEFA Champions League group stage assignments with a 3-1 win over Club Brugge in Belgium on Wednesday night.

Brugge, who in the first leg nearly picked a win at Madrid’s backyard before the record European champions fought from two goals down to salvage a point looked dangerous in the first half with South Africa’s Percy Tau in particular causing Madrid defenders problems.

The two sides created numerous chances but they couldn’t utilize as both keepers stood tall between the posts to keep matters even.

Eight minutes into the second half, the hosts took what many may argue was undeserved lead. Alvaro Odriozola found Rodrygo with a cross and the Brazilian volleyed it home. The lead however lasted for two minutes before Hans Vanaken drew the hosts level.

Madrid retook the lead in the 63rd minute through another Brazilian, Vinicius Junior. The youngster fired home from a move that involved Jovic and Rodrygo.

Luka Modric then sealed the win in stoppage time with a fine with a curler into the top corner from the edge of the area after he was set up by Casemiro.
