Unconfirmed reports making rounds on social media on Tuesday indicate that Embakasi East Member of Parliament(MP) Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino, is bound to be appointed as Nairobi County Deputy Governor.
According to information shared by Milele Fm breakfast show host Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, plans are underway for Governor Sonko to appoint Babu as his Deputy and allow him to take over the mantle of leadership until 2022.
The popular radio host took to his social media account to reveal the rumours and added that they will be hosting the controversial MP on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
“So much is going on! He has to tell us why he was in court yesterday… Rumours have it that in case Gov. Sonko is barred from the office he night nominate Babu for the position of Dep. Governor.
This means that if approved Babu will be in charge of the county until 2022 calling for a by-election in Embakasi!,” wrote Jalang’o on his Instagram page.
The radio presenter claimed that the process was being cooked owing to the fact that the impeachment of the Governor is impossible since key senators are part of his legal team.
“Remember Speaker Elachi can only act if Gov. Sonko is impeached! This might be a hard nut to crack since some senators who the impeachment must pass through are already representing Gov. Sonko in court! ” added Jalang’o.
Important to note that no clear information has been given by relevant authorities over the matter.
The development comes in the wake of the simmering debate revolving around the leadership crisis of the Country’s biggest city, Nairobi.
This follows the arrest of Governor Sonko who has been charged with corruption allegations.
Sonko, however, denied 19 counts of charges facing him.
The Governor who is in detention is awaiting his bail ruling on Wednesday.
However, given that some governors implicated in corruption cases have before been barred from accessing their office and performing their duties, the question remains who will take over the leadership of the Nairobi County if Governor Sonko is blocked from undertaking his duties?
Among the Governors barred from accessing their office include Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu).
Both governors are facing corruption charges.
