Kariobangi Sharks Coach Facing The Sack, Former Harambee Stars Boss Lined Up As Replacement

When Sharks played Everton FC at Kasarani in July, 2019, Muluya carried much of the glory as the team displayed close to perfect football in all aspects .  It was not only a historical clash, but also a historical win.

Today, when Sharks face Tusker FC in the Kenya Premier League Round 13 encounter, the narrative could change. The hero could become the villain.

The 33-year old is staring at an imminent sacking and Stanley Okumbi, fresh from sacking by Wazito FC, has been lined up as a possible replacement.

Coincidentally, the man at the helm of the Everton technical bench at Kasarani in July, Marco Silva, was shown the door after a 5-2 humiliation by Liverpool on Wednesday in the Merseyside derby.

Sharks have had a terrible season so far, managing only 8 points from the 12 rounds played, winning just one game – a 2-0 win against cash-strapped Chemelil Sugar in October, failing to replicate the same performance in the last two seasons.

Muluya, took over the Kariobangi based outfit in 2016 from Mathare United and steered the team to KPL promotion, finishing 2nd in the National Super League in the 2015-16 season.

In the KPL debut season, Muluya guided the team to a third-place finish, producing the top scorer and the best goalkeeper in Masud Juma and John Oyemba respectively, which saw him feted as the best coach for the year.

Under his tenure, Sharks won the Federation Cup in 2018, beating Sofapaka FC 3-2 in the final, and booking a spot to play in the CAF Confederations Cup Qualifiers though they were bundled out in the 2nd qualifying round.

They have also managed to play in two other Federation Cup finals under the stewardship of Muluya, losing to AFC Leopards in 2017 and to Bandari FC in 2019.
