Atwoli Lands Prestigious International Job

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli was filled with joy after he got a new job.

Atwoli is set to take up his new role which will see him be in charge of a continental organisation.

During the International Labour Organisation (ILO) African region meeting, the COTU boss was unanimously elected as the Chairperson of the Africa Workers Group.

If being the head of the group was not enough, the vocal representative of workers in Kenya was made the spokesperson of the institution.

The 69-year-old stated that he was humbled with the decision made by the delegates at the forum held in Ivory Coast.

The nicknamed ‘political prophet’ remarked that he would continue in his fight to ensure fair treatment of employees across the continent.

Brussels Ayuba who is the Head of the President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) noted that Atwoli deserved the position.

Ayuba commented that the hard work depicted by the secretary-general could not be matched by any other person.

He further pointed out that the passion and dedication exhibited by the leader earned him the position.

Atwoli Fired from NBK board 

The new acquisition comes two months after the workers union leader was fired from his post at National Bank of Kenya (NBK).

The bank after being acquired by KCB relieved Atwoli of his duties as a board member.

Through a notice, the bank declared that it was changing the old guard with a new one.

According to the financial institution, the new move was a strategy to breathe life into the doomed government facility.

Atwoli occupied one of the places reserved for NSSF nominees who represented the workers in the firm.

As part of the purge, positions reserved for the Treasury CS and the managing custodian of the NSSF were abolished.

It was revealed that those members who were not fired, decided to voluntarily retire.
