Raila’s Ally Summoned Over Hatespeech In Kibra By-election

National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) on Tuesday summoned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Director of Communication Philip Etale over hate speech remarks.

In a statement he wrote on his Facebook Page, Etale announced that NCIC directed him to appear before it on Tuesday 10th.

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga and his Director of Elections Philip Etale.

“I have been summoned to appear before the NCIC on Tuesday 10th December over a Facebook post I made during the Kibra by-election campaign. I will oblige. In God I Trust,” wrote Etale on Facebook.

It is not clear yet which specific Facebook post attracted the attention of the NCIC.

The move to summon the ODM party official comes nearly two months after Jubilee leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto demanded the prosecution of some Orange party officials over hate speech remarks.

The leaders led by Kikuyu legislator Kimani Ichung’wa accused the ODM party of orchestrating pockets of violence witnessed during the voting exercise in the Kibra by-election.

The revelation comes hours after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was arrested over his utterances in his county.

According to information shared by the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Twitter, the Senator contradicted section 62(1) of the National Cohesion & Integration Act and Incitement to Violence contrary to section 96(a) of the Penal Code.

While speaking at Funeral in Kilibwoni Primary school the senator said that his community was “profiling and marking” those opposing Deputy President William Ruto.

The Ruto-allied senator added that he will deal with those opposing the DP.

The DCI further added that the Senator will be arraigned on the same day.

I have been summoned to appear before the NCIC on Tuesday 10th December over a Facebook post I made during the Kibra by-election campaign. I will oblige. In God I Trust.
