Wakali Kwanza Gang Leader Shot Dead in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa have shot dead a suspected gang leader of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza criminal group in Bamburi after a botched raid.

The gang is reported to have been preparing to carry out an attack in Kisauni when bodaboda operators in the area tipped off police officers patrolling the area.

Some members of the gang are reported to have escaped with gunshot wounds after the fierce confrontation with police officers.

Confirming the incident on Monday, December 1, Kisauni OCPD Julius Kiragu revealed that the gang members were injured after blood trails were spotted in the directions the criminals ran into.

In August, police shot dead then gang-leader of Wakali Kwanza ‘Bwika’ aged 22 in an operation where crude weapons and stolen mobile phones were discovered.

Police have been on the look-out for the dreaded Mombasa gangs for months after carrying out sporadic attacks on residents leaving dozens nursing panga wounds.

Other gangs in Mombasa are Wakali Wao, Wajukuu wa Bibi, Wakali Pilipili, Lipa Kwanza and Watalia.

The gangs’ activity are often profound in Mtopanga, Bamburi Mwisho, Bombolulu and Kisimani areas.
