Arsenal Keeper Pens Emotional Message to Unai Emery After Being Fired

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has opened up on Unai Emery’s sacking.

In an emotional social media message-hours after the club announced Unai’s departure, the Argentine admitted players let down the Spaniard during his time at Emirates.

Martinez says they would have saved Unai from the ax if they worked a little bit hard on the pitch.

“Thank you Emery Unai and Javi I’m sorry we let you down, it’s our fault for not performing the right way. I’m sure we will meet again,” he wrote on his Instagram page.

Speaking on behalf of the Arsenal board and our owners Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, Josh Kroenke said: “Our sincerest thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand. We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success.”

He also announced the elevation of Swedish Freddie Ljungberg to the top seat- albeit on an interim basis.

“We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward.

“The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete, “the club announced.

Unai has left Arsenal at position eight with 18 points on the Premier League table. They’re 19 points behind leaders Liverpool and one point ahead of seventh-placed Manchester United. Leicester City, Manchester City and Chelsea are second, third and fourth respectively.
