Sonko to Unveil ‘Beautiful’ Deputy Governor

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has revealed intentions to appoint a ‘beautiful lady’ as Deputy Governor almost two years after the office fell vacant.

While Governor Sonko has nominated deported lawyer Miguna Miguna in the past, members of the County Assembly rejected his name.

Reacting to the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which proposes that the County Assembly be given powers to appoint a Deputy Governor, Sonko beamed with the hope of unveiling his deputy.

“I’ve got a very beautiful lady who is ready (to be Deputy Governor),” Sonko remarked.

Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen proposed an amendment to the County Governments Act to compel Governors to elect their deputies should a vacancy occur.

This gap in the Constitution has led to Governor Sonko’s lethargy of appointing a Deputy, a move that is widely seen to occasion mismanagement.

Sonko fell out with his Deputy Polycarp Igathe who cited irreconcilable differences after terse months at City Hall.

Initially, Sonko had promised to take up the political administration while Igathe was to be the technocrat behind County affairs.

The upsetting of this arrangement by Governor Sonko is seen to be among the reasons which occasioned the fall-out even after President Kenyatta attempted to bring the two to work together.
