Neck pains are among the most common issues facing millennials today especially because they spend so many hours on their laptops and computers.
A stiff neck is the result of muscles weakening over time from poor posture or misuse. It is also very common among drivers who spend long hours in front of the wheel.
Stretching
When you’re job requires you to sit in front of a screen for long hours, take a few minutes each hour to stretch. Some helpful stretches include rolling and squeezing your shoulders backwards and down as well as pushing your head back into your car headrest.
Take a break from the screen
Apart from stretching, take time off from the screen by taking a walk. This break is essential for proper back health.
Sleep properly
Many people get stiff necks from assuming an improper posture when sleeping. Pay attention to your position when sleeping. Some other remedies include sleeping on a comfortable mattress.
Over the counter drugs
Before the pain gets unbearable, take some over the counter drugs for pain relief. Common pain relief drugs include Ibuprofen.
Ice or Heat
Use ice on the neck for the first few hours to see how the neck reacts. You can use heat after if no change is registered. To apply heat, use hot compresses or a heating pad. Be sure not to fall asleep with a heating pad or ice bag in place to avoid skin injuries.
Massage
A massage is a great way to loosen the tight muscles and reduce the pain in the sore area.
